Under the Redcoat
Under the Redcoat: Lord Cornwallis Occupies Williamsburg
British soldiers impose martial law on the city as a prelude to their eventual
move to Yorktown in 1781. According to Sgt. Chapman, the
"naval" invitation goes to McGaughey's Marines out of Pittsburg. (If
any of
us wish to attend, we must register through him. I will attemp a contact.)
Note to Members of the Richmond!
We are asking the ship's company and dependants to register with the Sargent (Russel Borghere) or Captain Fisher early EVEN if we are not yet sure of a commitment. Please take note of Major McGaughey's suggestion below.
"It is very important that when the time comes to register
that I have
everyone's name. It is wise even to register people who may not attend,
especially if I don't personally know them. The registration desk only
accepts people on the official list and registering there on the spot would
require my presence and okay. I would prefer it done in advance as I plan
on being a tourist Friday.
I guess what I am saying is make it easy on all and send in all names of
people who may attend, including family members, girlfriends, etc., for the
free passes."

1812 Naval Event in Great Lakes at National Park Service site
September 7th and 8th, 2002
The 189th Anniversary of the Battle of Lake Erie
Held on the grounds of the Perry's Victory & International
Peace Memorial. Put-in-Bay, Ohio
Participants attending the event will receive reimbursement for round-trip ferry
transportation to and from the island, and some funding should be available
to help cover the costs of mileage.
Five meals (Friday evening, three on Saturday, and Sunday morning), restroom facilities, firewood, water, d straw will be provided. Activities will include a parade and a formal ceremony to honor those who fought in the battle. Hopefully we can prevail upon Les Southwick to host a pig roast again this year.
It is anticipated that the 2002 Battle of Lake Erie event will be a quality weekend for both participants and visitors, particularly considering that the new visitor center will be open, and I hope you can attend. Further details be forthcoming as the even draws nearer. If you have any questions or comments, please contact me Jerry Altoff (419)285-2184
Note from the Captain: Gentlemen, Jerry Altoff is one of the most knowledgeable people concerning Perry's Victory. He puts on a great event from vituals to entertainment. This event is not the most "authentic " in terms of surroundings, but for a midwest venue, it is worth the visit. It is rare to find a National Park willing to take on Living History enthusists. I think because of the new visitors center, It should be even better.
October 5 & 6, 2002 RevWar Encampment at Fort Jackson in Savannah GA.
This will be the 223th commemorative of the Siege of Savannah.
This will be a British encampment, where the original mud fort of 1775 stood,
now the 1808 fort structure.
The event is a living history encampment, dealing with the siege of Savannah
in 1779. The British Navy and Marines were involved in this battle maning shore
batterys as well as ships in the river. The site is located on the eastern end
of the battle on the river. This will be a good event for recuiting as well
as teaching the public. NO FEE for attending
CONTACT John Guss at 912-232-3945
1 FT. JACKSON RD.

Their website does not address the event in October in any detail. For more information, members are encouraged to contact John Guss assistant site manager.
